History & development
The Lake
of
the golden valley (Etang of Vaulaurent), is a carp fishing venue with
some 31
acres set in 50 acres of our own land, largely forested, and in a
peaceful rural valley approximately 1 mile from the small village of
Saint Martin sur Oust in the
heart of the Morbihan, Brittany (France).
Vaulaurent is a mature, naturally balanced, silt bottomed lake and features tree lined margins and lily pads. The depth varies from 5 feet to 14 feet at its deepest point close to the dam wall to the south of the lake
For many years, a favourite fishing location for pike, perch and many other species of fish, the lake has more recently, and by its two previous owners, been stocked and used as a carp fishery.
Since our
ownership, which commenced in May 2005, we have carried out extensive
but sympathetic development, the first phase of which was completed for
the 2006 season. This season became a small test for us and
proved successful with many of our customers that season exceeding
their personal bests.
Since the end of the 2006 season we have remained closed whilst phase 2 of our development has been carried out.
The two phases have included the following:
- Landscaping of the grounds.
- Construction of an amenity block.
- The construction of timber Finlandia style cabins adjacent to their respective swims.
- The construction of a small clubhouse.
- Laying out of eight swims - 4 singles and 4 doubles.
- Creation of hard driveways and parking places with improved vehicle access.
- Creation of pontoon and ramp for disabled users.
Fishing Tackle carry
Please note that we
do not offer the service of carrying your gear from your car to your
swim. However, we have created driveways enabling you to take your
vehicle close to your swim or cabin for unloading. After unloading, all
vehicles must be returned to the parking area.

We
are licensed for night carp fishing.
